At the end of 1999, migrants’ memories and contemporaneous documents were presented in an ethnographic exhibition at the Museum für Gestaltung, which was brought to the public with guided tours and an intercultural programme. A reduced version of the exhibition was shown as a video installation at 24 locations in German-speaking Switzerland from 2001 to 2004. “Here and Away. Living in Two Worlds” stimulated a variety of intercultural exchanges in schools and in regional and local cultural centres.

Feedback about the travelling exhibition, both from the press and the public, as well as documents from each site such as project reports and other materials about migration and intercultural issues, were gathered and organised according to the order of the locations in which the exhibition was shown. This collection of documents is augmented by the text of the opening address to the exhibition at the Museum für Gestaltung in Zürich, an interim report, and a final report.
